Explaining Personal and Public Pro-Environmental Behaviors

A global crisis generated by human-made climate change has added urgency to the need fully understand human pro-environmental behaviors (PEBs) that may help slow down crisis. Factors influencing personal and public PEBs or not be same. Only a few studies have empirically investigated determinants of simultaneously, but they contain major limitations with mixed results. This study develops conceptual model for explaining both incorporate demographic, socioeconomic, political, attitudinal variables, their direct indirect effects. Using latest available data from 2010 General Social Survey structural equation modeling (SEM), we tested in United States. The results reveal environmental concerns, education, political orientation demonstrate similar significant impacts on PEBs, income, gender, race, urban/rural residency, region, party affiliation differential effects these behaviors. Age, cohort, religion no effect types Our confirm some existing findings; however, challenge findings much literature.
